Student Health Services is working in collaboration with local healthcare systems and public health officials to establish a surveillance plan to include screening, testing, treatment, contact tracing, and a University-wide response to confirmed cases of COVID-19. Our planned response includes the ability to quickly identify suspected or confirmed virus carriers and quarantine close contacts. In alignment with recommendations from the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Education (DOE), Marywood University will require entry screening testing (testing students prior to or at the beginning of the semester) to prevent and reduce COVID-19 transmission. This requirement is for all students who will attend campus in-person during the Spring 2021 semester. (Students attending online only are exempt from this testing requirement). All students, faculty, and staff are expected to adhere to local, state, and federal travel advisories as they relate to COVID-19 testing and quarantine. Certification and Allocations: On April 16, 2020, Marywood signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. Marywood University received $2,020,450 from the CARES Act. Fifty percent (50%) of those funds or $1,010,225, was allocated for Emergency Financial Grants to Students. These funds were received on May 7, 2020. The program concluded on December 31, 2020, and, as of that date, Emergency Financial Aid grants, totaling $1,010,225, were allocated to students. The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) was passed by Congress and signed into law December 27, 2020, and is the second round of funding under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) during the coronavirus pandemic. The funding package provides aid to higher education students to cover components of cost of attendance and emergency costs associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The total award made to Marywood is $1,010,225.Students who received funding through the first CARES Act passed by Congress in March 2020 may not necessarily receive funds this time due to stricter eligibility requirements. Unlike the CARES Act, the CRRSAA (HEERF II) requires that institutions prioritize students with “exceptional need”. For all undergraduate students, Marywood uses the FAFSA data point of Expected Family Contribution (EFC) as the indicator for exceptional need, whereby all students who are Pell eligible based on their EFC number are eligible for an award in the exceptional need category. “Exceptional need” is defined as demonstrating via the FAFSA an expected family contribution (EFC) number within the Pell eligible range. For the current academic year, that EFC range is 0-5711.Graduate students are also considered for HEERF II funds and the awards are based on an EFC between 0-5711, number of dependents, and number of credits enrolled for during the spring 21 semester. If students are having a hard time getting a test on their own can they set up testing through Student Health?
ALL out-of-state students must be tested prior to arriving in Pennsylvania; this is not just our protocol but is part of the mandate from the Secretary of Health. Testing should be performed 3-5 days prior to arrival in Pennsylvania. In-state resident students and commuters must also be tested. We are aware that not everyone may have their results in time, and that is okay. They can quarantine in their dorm or apartment until the results are available.
Why can't I just get tested when I arrive on campus?
The point in having everyone tested before coming to campus is to limit exposure and to avoid running out of isolation spaces and resources on campus. To prevent this from happening, it is imperative that everyone do their best to be tested before arrival so that isolation can be done at home if needed.
Does it have to be a PCR test, or will the University accept a rapid test result?
Either a PCR or a rapid test result is sufficient.
Where can I have the test performed?
It is recommended that you check with your PCP or local pharmacy for testing options. CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreen’s all offer testing options without the need of a doctor's order at no cost. Several Urgent Care centers also offer the test.
If students provide proof of both doses of the vaccine, they will not need to get tested unless they are experiencing COVID-like symptoms. Proof of vaccination is to be submitted to SHS. At this time there are no plans to require re-entry testing for faculty and staff, although this option is still being considered by the COVID Action Team (CAT) team and Sister Mary's Cabinet.

Our distinctive, versatile approach to instruction, Marywood’s HyBridge Education Model, will continue in the spring, with most courses operating in the HyBridge model but incorporating a few changes. A small number of courses will run as fully online or fully in-person. In-person meetings can address new academic content; in that event, instructors will offer a parallel and equitable learning experience for “online only” students. Instructors may hold HyBridge students (that is, those who do not apply to attend as online-only students) accountable for attendance in the face-to-face on-campus meetings. Students who must quarantine at the start of the semester can fulfill this expectation by participating in the activities offered for online-only students. Faculty will detail their requirements and expectations on their course syllabi, available on Moodle, and, as always, you can contact them by email to ask questions. A Spring 2021 Attendance Notification form is available to complete, and you can find it on the website under "Online Forms for Students." If you know that you will attend classes this spring as an "online-only student," please complete that form as soon as possible. In accordance with Marywood’s HyBridge Education Model, students are expected to attend on-campus, face-to-face enrichment activities, unless their circumstances qualify for a waiver. Students may seek a waiver for medical reasons either at the start of the semester or whenever a situation arises necessitating such a waiver. Right now, none of our programs may engage in face-to-face offsite learning activities, but we are actively facilitating virtual and remote experiences where they are appropriate to the learning outcomes of the internship and where they are permitted by a department's accreditation guidelines. Most clinical programs are utilizing telehealth options to complete field and internship experiences. Field experiences, such as practicums and student teaching, will follow Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines. In light of COVID-19 and the closure of K-12 schools, these guidelines currently offer a modified path to meet PDE requirements for field experiences. We anticipate that PDE will offer further guidance on how students may fulfil its field experience requirements during the 2020-2021 academic year. The School of Education continues to be in close communication with PDE as it plans for the upcoming academic year.
No, assuming that you are adhering to the protective measures BOTH in the workplace and on our campus, and you are observing strategies implemented to protect staff as they perform their work functions, all of which are designed to mitigate transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19.

The Presidents Council approved a proposal from the athletics administration to begin spring sports competition on or after March 1, 2021. Each spring sport will have the opportunity to engage in competition against non-league opponents in the spring sports prior to the start of conference games. All non-conference competition must end seven days prior to conference competition beginning. Once conference competition has begun, no non-conference competition will be allowed. The approved spring sport schedule will allow for one week of make-up games at the end of the conference schedule, as needed. Additionally, the Council approved that there will be no fans at any competition this spring with the exception of senior day games.

Fall 2021 Freshmen: Marywood has implemented a test-optional admissions policy for first-year freshmen entering in Fall 2021. This policy is applicable to all academic programs. Students who have taken the SAT or ACT are encouraged, but not required, to submit their test scores with their application. Based on recommendation from your Alumni Weekend Chairs, with support of the Alumni Engagement Office, and approval of the University President, it was decided that our Alumni Weekend will be postponed to October 2021. In place of our Alumni Weekend, the Alumni Engagement Office will be hosting trivia nights, cooking classes, mini-reunions, Talent Tuesdays, and other programs from a virtual platform.
