Assistant Provost [Internal Candidates Only]

Summary of Duties

The Assistant Provost is responsible for assisting with various functions and programs within the Academic Affairs division. The Assistant Provost will serve as officer in charge if the Provost is unavailable.


  • Educational:


    Required education, training, and experience:

    • Terminal degree or 5 years higher education administration.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
    • Proficiency with data manipulation and analysis.


    • Rank of associate or full professor and tenure (or rank of associate/full clinical professor).
    • Teaching experience
    • Administrative experience in higher education.
    • Experience with accreditation and assessment.

  • Essential Elements:


    1.    Curriculum:

    • Represents Academic Affairs on the UGCCC, UGCC, and the GCC
    • Facilitates and tracks development of new programs and modification of existing programs through support of deans and department chairs/directors
    • Facilitates needs assessment and procurement of resources needed for effective program delivery, including but not limited to capital expenditures, space utilization, classroom technology, etc.

    2.    Assessment/Accreditations

    • Works with deans and departments to support assessment processes, and provides oversight for successful student pass rates for licensure
    • Chair of Outcomes Assessment Committee
    • Responsible for the effective management of processes for internal reviews, which are facilitated by Deans of respective departments/programs
    • Responsible for successful process for external accreditations for programs.
    • Responsible for completing and submitting Middle State Commission of Higher Education annual reports and shepherding the process for successful reaccreditation
    • Oversees data for assessment and accreditation, via Taskstream, and align with strategic planning and direction
    • Serve as IPEDS keyholder

    3.    Institutional research

    • Manages data requests and assures accuracy of reports
    • Oversees implementation of surveys (e.g., HERI, NSSE, SSI, ACUP, etc)
    • Oversees generation of Factbook and Databook; IPEDS report; survey reports
    • Sets direction for all research efforts on campus, including Research and Sponsored Programs and the Office for Human Participant Protection and Research Compliance.
    • Oversees course evaluation process

    4.    Other duties as assigned
