Art Therapy Symposium at Marywood University

Marywood University’s Professional Continuing Education department will hold an Art Therapy Symposium on Friday, March 29, 2019, from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., in the Upper Main Dining Hall in the Nazareth Student Center. The program fee is $125, and includes continental breakfast and lunch.

Presenters at the Symposium include Glen R. Finney, M.D., director of aging brain and behavioral neurology for the Geisinger Health System. Dr. Finney has researched, published articles and book chapters, and given presentations on the topic of the brain, creativity, and mitigating factors on cognition. Stephanie Wise, ATR-BC, ATCS, LCAT, is an associate professor of practice at Marywood University. She has researched, published articles, and given presentations on the topic of bilateral median and art therapy.

Participants, upon competing this training, will be able to: Identify the definition and elements of creativity and apply the tools used to measure creativity; describe the neurologic systems involved in creativity; list the neurologic disorders associated with creativity changes and analyze the types of changes in creativity seen in neurologic disorders; explain three reasons why right brain approaches to therapeutic trauma work is highly effective; list two interdisciplinary creative arts activities specifically designed to disrupt the ‘low road’ loop of PTSD; and define ‘bilateral art therapy’ and ‘resourcing’.

The program is designed for addiction counselors, certified case managers, prevention specialists, audiologists, speech language pathologists, art therapists, educators, music therapists, psychologists, and social workers. The Art Therapy Symposium is also approved for continuing education credits and ACT 48 hours.
